Fire and Rescue!
Year 5 went on a visit to Burton Fire Station this week, learning about safety on the roads, canals and rivers, in the home, online and some basic first aid.
On a visit to Burton Fire Station, Year 5 took part in five safety activities:
- CPR and the recovery position (not always with a smiling body on the floor!)
- road safety, particularly around trucks and lorries. We were amazed to learn just how far back you need to be for a truck driver to see you in their rear-view mirror, and that if you cross the road right in front of them they cannot see you.
- river and canal safety
- hazards in the home
- online safety guidance from the police
It was a very interesting and useful trip. The highlight for some of us was sitting in the front seat of the Fire Engine!
