It's Holi Time!

To celebrate the start of Spring (although the weather wasn't very warm today!), we have been learning about the Hindu festival of Holi in our assemblies this week. It is a Springtime festival that celebrates the triumph of good over evil. The story of Holika and Prahlad is told. People have bonfires on which they throw last year's waste, signifying new beginnings.

It's a time when rules are broken, when anyone and everyone can throw water balloons and coloured powder at each other. Each of the colours have a meaning. It remembers the story about the mischievous, blue-faced god Krishna who tricked the milkmaids with buckets of coloured water.
