Light of Hope

Our whole school has been 'Looking back, Looking forward' this week in our assemblies, acknowledging and reflecting on the big feelings that come with change and loss, but also our strategies for coping and what it means to have hope. As part of Lichfield Cathedral's 2020 project 'Light of Hope' we created these light-holders decorated with images and messages of what hope means to us, exploring "the great power of light over darkness; how light can bring new colour, new life, and always brings hope". As well as thinking about hope and light, this project encourages us to be the light, and to make light too! The cathedral's artist in residence Peter Walker says about the project:

“Light of Hope is an opportunity for us to collectively remember those who have helped and given so much during the past year, as well as take time to remember those we have lost and think about those near to us.”

To coincide with All Saints and All Souls Days on 1st and 2nd November, beams of light will be cast into the night sky from the cathedral. The beams will offer a symbol of hope shining high into the sky, for all around to see.
