About Our School

Welcome to Thomas Russell Junior School.

We are delighted to tell you that following Ofsted's visit in January 2019, we are officially an Outstanding School

In January 2019, Ofsted said:  "This is an outstanding and improving school."

  • Leaders have planned a rich and varied curriculum.   It leads to outstanding academic outcomes.
  • Teaching is consistently strong.  Staff use secure subject knowledge, probing questions and a range of resources to help pupils to complete activities thoroughly, accurately and at pace.
  • Pupils ...reach high standards of attainment in all subjects ... excel in many subjects ... have excellent attitudes to learning ...  impeccable conduct reflects the school's excellent strategies to promote high standards of behaviour.
  • Governance is strong , and governors are highly ambitious for the school.
  • Leaders and staff promote diversity and equality of opportunity exceptionally well.

At our school we aim to provide the best possible education for every child in a friendly and caring environment. We take great pleasure in forming strong relationships with parents and the wider community. We want each and every child to discover and achieve their potential, both academically and personally; to be stimulated and challenged; to take responsibility and most of all enjoy their time here.

In June 2014, Ofsted said:

  • "It is a school transformed from the ordinary. Under much improved leadership and management, it shows a lot of potential for further improvement"
  • "Relentless drive to improve teaching is working"
  • "Expectation of excellence rather than adequacy"
